Anatole Menon Johansson is a sexual health consultant trying to revolutionise the way sexual health services are run in the UK. At the moment, they are badly coordinated and hard to access quickly by the people who desperately┬áneed them. Anatole has been working with web development agency Bit Zesty, to create a website on which a patient can type in their postcode, their problem, and, within minutes, connect with the person/place who can give the advice/treatment they need – no referrals, no unnecessary appointments, no awkward conversations with people who canÔÇÖt actually help.

In this interview we speak with Anatole about his journey bringing SXT Health to life.

“When people don’t understand where you’re coming from, they tend to put up the barriers”

Disrupting the health industry is no easy task, especially given the press surrounding for profit companies that have moved into the world of health care. Furthermore, sexual health is highly stigmatised with many people reluctant to risk being seen in a waiting room by someone who may know who they are.

It’s interesting to see someone so passionate about such a niche area, and there are a few learnings from our chat which include:

  • Anatole failing to appreciate the sheer level of suspicion surrounding business in healthcare
  • The importance of building a blog and using it as an educational tool and a reference point for his journey, enabling him to refer back to it and answer the many questions about his vision

His key pieces of advice for entrepreneurs were:

  • Make sure you really know the problem you’re trying to solve
  • Build something, test it and be flexible
  • When you see opportunities, just add them in
