Ethan Imboden is the Head of Venture Design at frog design and the Founder of Jimmyjane, a company that produces high-end, design-oriented sexual accessories. In part one of our two part interview, Ethan answers the following four questions taken from the standard Breaking Biz quickfire Q&A for entrepreneurs:

Ethan Imboden

  • What was your first ever business idea?
  • Why did you decide to start your own business?
  • How do you identify a real business opportunity?
  • What skill or ability is most important for an entrepreneur and why?

Ethan on design

“If the goal is to optimise the user experience then I think it’s very helpful to be very close to that user experience.”

“The first question we need to ask when designing is should this even exist in the first place?”

“I want to spend my time on worthwhile projects that have a positive impact on people’s lives, while minimising any negative collateral damage that they may have.”

“These products need to be worth the molecules they consume.”

Ethan on perseverance

“We’re very fond of these overnight success stories, but they may exist where they do they are the exception not the rule. Much more common is a very long and very gruelling dedication to bringing a business to life and that perseverance is absolutely critical for surviving that process.”
