Following on from our first interview with Cereal Killer Café, the guys took part in our quickfire entrepreneur Q&A to share what they consider to be the basics behind starting a business. If you missed the original interview with the guys you can find it here, and it details the build up to the opening of the world’s first ever ‘cereal only’ café that will be equipped with enough 90’s memorabilia to make you think The Fresh Prince of Bel Air has been commisioned for a new season!

Breaking Biz:

What was your first ever business idea?

Cereal Killer Cafe:

T-shirt company.

BB:

Why did you decide to start your own business?

CKC:

We were sick of being told what to do by other people and coming up with ideas that people always shot down.

BB:

How do you identify a real business opportunity?

CKC:

You just need to think margins, can you make money off it.

BB:

What skill or ability is most important for an entrepreneur and why?

CKC:

I think creativity. Yeah, passion as well…and timekeeping.

BB:

You know someone who wants to start a business but fears leaving their job. What do you say to them?

CKC:

They need to do it part time, they need to work out a business plan. I’d say do the research first, do everything you possibly can before you actually need to take that dive.

BB:

Are there people who start a business for the wrong reasons?

CKC:

Yes, probably (laughs).

BB:

What are the most important lessons you’ve learned?

CKC:

Don’t listen to the negativity. Yeah believe in yourself and believe in your business plan. If you have faith in what it s that you’re doing, if you have firm belief that your business will succeed then there’s nothing that can stand in your way.

BB:

Can you recommend any books or resources that helped you along the way?

CKC:

The Secret. I think the book’s great, it’s all about positive attitude.

BB:

What’s the best part of your job?

CKC:

Being able to do whatever you want. So waking up in the morning and not having someone else telling you what to do you just do it for yourself, and when you’re doing it for yourself it just feels so much better. Like, today I got up at 6 o’clock and I still haven’t stopped working and it doesn’t bother me at all.

BB:

What’s your biggest fear?

CKC:

Spiders.

(Somebody was eventually going to say that…)
